Lust Shaving Soap
To understand the scent of this soap, you need to ask yourself what lust feels like.
Articulating that is difficult, but you’d probably at least agree that lust is all-consuming. It’s intoxicating in a very primal way. It is the instinctive desire to pursue satisfaction. And for that reason, it has a way of reminding us that we are truly captive to what we crave.
I started the fragrance development with this conclusion. And I decided that instead of trying to represent lust itself – which is open to an endless amount of interpretation – I would create a representation of something that might spark the lustful inclination in our souls.
What I’ve created is a fragrance that is based on a perfume that you might smell on a woman that you’ve been trading glances with all night. It’s the smell that pulls your head around. It is succulently sweet, but not offensive or cloying. It is wonderfully complex and passionate, but carries with it some element of sin. It’s the type of smell that can impact your moods, thoughts, and decision-making in the right (or wrong) places.
It opens with a burst of red cherry and pomegranate that immediately make the mouth-watering quality noticeable. You may initially take this as a gourmand for that reason. A touch of bergamot essential oil tames the sweetness and provides a little smoother transition to some of the more dominating heart notes.
A lush chorus of florals follow the fruits and become the mainstay of this fragrance. In true lustful fashion, rose is immediately pulled to the forefront. Lily of the valley, tuberose, and violet are also all present, but only serve as modifiers to the rose. The result is a seriously intoxicating and intricate rose accord. After smelling and using this material for some time, the rose accord in this soap has become something I’m really proud of. It’s so versatile and captivating. You really have to smell it to understand it.
I knew that overpowering this fragrance with woods or darker base notes would overstate its intent, so I used them carefully. Vetiver, musk, and a hint of smoke are all used in coordination to evoke the sinister elements of what a lustful smell would be (I actually added a touch of a tar-like aroma chemical to make the smoke resemble that of a cigarette).
The base component that really ties everything together is the vanilla. This is the heart of the sweetness and the ingredient that transforms the entire impact of it. To get at the “right” type of sweetness for this scent, I spent a lot of time experimenting with and smelling several different vanilla-like materials. The problem is that most of them end up smelling very “sticky” and artificial. They make you feel like you’re sick if you smell them for too long. For that reason, I’ve used vanillin. It has a stunning, light, powdery sweetness to it that isn’t cloying.
Lust is undoubtedly a fragrance people would associate as feminine. But it’s the type of female fragrance that a man would be captivated by. Which is why you should try it.
The soaps in The Seven Collection are premium products. And they look and feel like it. I spent about 2 months researching ingredients and 3 months experimenting before I was able to produce the soap that I’m offering here.
The lather is incredibly protective, dense, and has that sought-after texture of melted marshmallows. This contributes to a slickness that rivals some of the best soaps that I’ve tried. Ingredients like lanolin, shea butter, and botanical extracts provide a superb post-shave skin feel. It has exceptional hard water tolerance and lather stability. It’s everything that all of the soaps out there claim to be, but delivers in a tangible way.
The seven deadly sins are the cardinal vices referenced in Christian teachings and scripture. They are the doorways to sinful behavior and the temptation that surrounds us all. They represent pleasure and satisfaction at the expense of our morality. They are the deeds that corrupt our conscience. The drunkards, the lawless, and the heretics find comfort here. They are: Gluttony, Lust, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride.
The Seven Collection is a sinister celebration of these sins. It is a white flag of surrender raised to temptation’s army. It is a shameless retreat from righteousness. Each product in the Seven Collection is inspired by a sin, and you are invited to experience each. Come and partake in the forbidden fruit, for it is this kind that tastes best.
